Kandhamal : A Special Vigilance Court in Phulbani has convicted Bibhu Nandan Keshari Nayak, an Assistant Teacher and In-Charge Head Master-cum-School Management Committee Secretary at Dukulamila New Primary School in Baliguda Block, Kandhamal district. He was found guilty of misappropriating Rs 3,00,000 of government funds and has been sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment (RI).
In addition to the prison sentence, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Nayak.
According to an official press release, Nayak was on unauthorized leave when he was charged by Odisha Vigilance under sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(c)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as well as sections 409 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code. He was accused of misappropriating Rs 3,00,000 without completing the construction of a school building.
Following his sentencing, Nayak has been taken into custody to serve his sentence. The anti-corruption agency will now seek the competent authority’s approval to dismiss Nayak from service.
