Jr. Revenue Assistant Arrested in Bissamkatak-Rayagada, evaded arrest for two years

Bhubaneswar: On Friday, Odisha Vigilance officials arrested Banamali Kar, a Junior Revenue Assistant working in the office of the Sub-Registrar in Bissam Katak, Rayagada district. He was charged with misappropriating Rs 1.40 crore in government funds, which were meant for registration fees, user fees, and other government revenues.

According to an official press release, Kar was arrested for offenses under sections 13(2) r/w 13(1)(a) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, as well as sections 409 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code.

Following his arrest, Odisha Vigilance conducted simultaneous searches at two locations associated with his properties. Kar had been evading arrest for the past two years, frequently changing his location to avoid capture. However, a special team from Odisha Vigilance successfully apprehended him after closely monitoring his movements.

Odisha Vigilance has initiated a special operation to apprehend public and government servants who are avoiding the law. Multiple teams have been formed, and raids are being conducted based on information about the suspected whereabouts of these absconders.

Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
